A picture of Miles Folsom in prison holding an anthology of Oscar Wilde's work

Hello! Let me introduce myself:

My name is Miles Michael Folsom. My passion for writing was cultivated during a long length of incarceration I began as a teenager. Writing was one of my only means of communication and freedom. It was a therapy that allowed me to war against the threat of nihility that often accompanies imprisonment.

Recognizing the height of learning involved in becoming a man of letters, I diligently set out to become the best version of myself that I could become. Learning is a unique endeavor because the breadth of knowledge contained in our history is practically inexhaustible. This means that if your goal is 'to learn' you can continue succeeding at it for your entire life. Success in learning, however, is both humbling and bittersweet. This is because it takes a fair amount of learning to even understand the capacity of our minds. And as you learn you realize how much there is left to learn.

My incarceration was a double edged sword. On one hand, it was terrible. But on the other hand, it provided me with a unique opportunity. I self-educated in the vein of a 19th century noble: all my needs were provided for; technology was not a distraction; and communication was limited to letters. Locked within my cell,

then within the mansion of my head, for years on end, I focused my attention on the little I was offered. The more I learned about life the better I understood my own. I now seek to spread the gift of intellectual evolution, as I experienced it, using my writing as a tool in hopes of seeding curiosity. This is the job of a poet and the role of poetry.
